4 Brilliant Ways a Bath Can Reduce Your Joint Pain

Throughout history warm water has been used for its medicinal properties. Aswell as helping with issues such as fibromyalgia, arthritis and lower back ache, studies have shown pain medication can also be reduced by taking a a warm bath on a regular basis. How can warm water be so effective you may wonder? Here we outline 4 ways a bath can help to reduce your joint pain:

1. Baths increase your temperature

Immersing yourself in warm water causes your body temperature to rise.

This dilates your blood vessels helping to increase your circulation, soothing your swelling and pain.

2. Baths release endorphins

A warm bath stimulates the release of endorphins.
These are the bodies natural pain relievers, helping to relieve your symptoms of joint pain.

3. Baths are relaxing

Baths relax sore muscles, ligaments, and tendons helping to relieve the aches you can experience with arthritis.

5 Surprising Reasons Why Baths Are Better For You Than Showers

There are many reasons to love bathing. In this blog we’ll explore 5 surprising reasons why baths are better for you than showers:

1. Reduced chance of slips and falls

You have a greater chance of slipping and falling in a shower, which in many cases can unfortunately lead to injury. Baths are a much safer alternative, especially if you feel unstable on your feet. If you would like to enjoy all the benefits a bath can bring, but are worried about getting in and out safely there’s an easy, affordable solution out there, and that’s Easy2Bathe. Click here to find out more.

2. They’re relaxing

In terms of what is the most relaxing, in our opinion there is no better feeling than soaking in a lovely warm bath. Having a bath is a brilliant way to relieve stress and take some time out of your day to unwind.

3. Baths help ease your aches and pains

If you are tired and aching, standing in a shower is the last thing you want to do. With a bath you can take all the weight from your aching joints and muscles. This can provide welcomed relief from arthritis, back pain, headaches and more.

4. Baths improve your circulation

Warm baths dilate your blood vessels, which help with circulation. This helps to provide you with much longed for relief from your aches and pains.

5. Easier to clean

In terms of what is easier to clean, this is a bit of a personal preference call here, although we’d say the bath is easier to clean. The bath only really has the tub and faucet that needs to be wiped clean, whilst a shower has the shower head, grout, glass etc. You also have more room to move whilst cleaning the bathtub compared to  the shower.

Ultimate Guide To Prevent Falling At Home

We were very moved recently by statistics we saw from the CDC stating that more than 1 in 4 elderly people fall each year. Falls are preventable and there are a number of simple things that you can change to prevent you hurting yourself from a fall. With that in mind, we’ve put together this useful guide to prevent you falling at home:

Make Your Living Space Safe

  • Kitchen– Ensure everything you need is easy to reach to prevent you having to stretch for items in your cupboards unnecessarily
  • Living room-Ensure that your furniture is arranged sensibly so there are easy pathways for you to get from one part of your room to another
  • Bathroom The majority of falls happening at home occur in the bathroom due to slippery fall surfaces and people getting in and out of their bath. Non slip mats are a good way to prevent falls. If you worry about slipping when getting in and out your bath the Easy2Bathe bath lift could help
  • Staircase– Consider having hand rails installed to support you getting up and down stairs
  • Floors– Keep your floor tidy and free of clutter to avoid you tripping on anything

Speak To Your Doctor

  • Don’t be scared to speak to your doctor if you have fallen over and try to speak to a doctor as soon as possible after a fall
  • Your doctor will be able to discuss with you risk factors involved and how to prevent a further fall
  • Additionally, certain medications you are on can cause you to feel unsteady on your feet

Wear shoes

  • Even though you may not want to wear shoes around your home, socks alone do not provide enough grip if you were to
  • Whilst socks are more comfortable to wear around home, you are more likely to slip whilst wearing them
  • Shoes or slippers with good grip can provide you with that extra re-assurance that you wont slip and fall.

Light It Up

  • Poor lighting can be a major cause of falls at home
  • To make your home environment safer, we would recommend installing brighter light bulbs for clearer visibility
  • Additionally it could be worth investing in some night-lights in your bedrooms and bathroom so its easier for you to see if you get up in the night

Exercise Regularly

  • Try to exercise regularly to increase your strength
  • Gentle exercises such as Thai Chi or walking can improve the strength of your legs and reduce your likelyhood of a fall

Get Your Eyes Checked

  • Ensure that you have your eyes checked once per year and ensure you update your prescription as required

How the Easy2Bathe Helped David [VIDEO]

“I now feel absolutely confident with bathing”

Living alone, David was conscious about his bathing safety and independence.

Fearing a slip or fall, David looked for a suitable solution to bring back his confidence during bath time and came across Easy2Bathe.

David describes his new Easy2Bathe bath lift as:

  • Very efficient – does the job
  • Easy to use
  • Keeps you safe

Can you tell us a little about yourself David?

I went to school up in Lancashire and from there went to Manchester University. Then I did a diploma in Education at Liverpool University and then I went to the RAF national service for 5 years and had a commission in the RAF. After the war we went over to Germany to an airfield and went straight into teaching. Then for 4 years in Kingston upon Themes and then I came up and taught in Birmingham.

What are your interests and hobbies?

poodleMy subject is Botony and Zoology. I’m particularly interested in insects. There is a field 5 houses away. The only problem is I take the dog and I’m more interested in the dog than the insect life! I was 18, my wife was 17 when we first got a dog and we had dogs ever since. I like my poodle. I didn’t think I ever would when I was 17 or 18 but things grow on you don’t they.

What made you look for assistance with bathing?

You see I’m on my own in the house. If I’m on my own and something happened in the bath, I can slip. If I slip and break a leg I could lie in that bath for a couple of days. I needed a nice chair to let me down into the water and lift me up again.

How has the Easy2Bathe helped you?

davids-story-easy2batheI feel absolutely confident now. No problems at all. If you’re in the house on your own and you’re my age and you’re going to stand up in the bath with the danger of slipping and then you can actually sit down, lower yourself in the water, bring it back up again, there’s no comparison. I mean you are absolutely safe. As far as I’m concerned the AquaLift is very efficient and does the job. Its easy to use and it keeps you safe.
